我是台灣人

Since I posted a proposal to create a 我是台灣人 badge/button. The response is overwhelming.

Dr. Luby Liao advise me to create a blog to further discuss this topic in blog.

A lot people recommend that 我是台灣人 is not enough. I responded with the following letter to Matt of why I only suggest this statement. Please provide your oppinion, especially the execution aspect of this proposal. I'll copy my original proposal and reply the Matt's email in the followings.

我是台灣人 original proposal

Dear All:

I would propose to design and produce a badge/button which has the word "我是台灣人", and the Englsih " I am Taiwanese". And distributed in Taiwan for anyone who is proud of they are a member of Taiwanese.
Especially, Ma or KMT should be asked to wear this badge/button. Please feedback on this idea. I believe Ma/KMT is testing water on the material Unification whitout declaration. This badge or button will allow people to show they are not Chinese and further delineate who are the Chinese among the population in Taiwan.

A reply email to Matt :

Dear Matt:

The subtlety of simply expressing 我是台灣人 is allow more people to join this movement, I don't mean only die hard Taiwanese who know who they are but for those 7 some millions of people who voted for Ma. They are very confused and have weak sense of identity. This movement will strike the heart of people to some soul searching to know who they are. Some people may be converted to Taiwanese, instead of being a Chinese as educated.

If those people are courageous enough to step out to declare they are Taiwanese (Not include Ma, all what he have done just for the show), they will even go deeper to support TI. But you need to convert those don't care crowd to openly declare they are Taiwanese. Besides, China is very sensitive to the word "Taiwan", so let Taiwan go forward and declare herself to the world. The "not Chinese" part will be your ice breaker to explain why Taiwanese is not Chinese as China or KMT insisted.

Thank you for your thought.

Shin
